Beginning in August and ending in November, Chris and Peggy led the life of jet setting government bureaucrats. During that time, they hunted for alligators, suffered the assault of fire ants, saw strange native people, ran away from hurricanes, and endured earthquakes. These next few pages chronicles their exploits as they went through their '99 Adventures.
First stop was Baton Rouge, LA where Chris and Peggy were introduced to their god daughter, Megan (daughter of Mohamed and Julie Furneaux-Noor). The trip went very well except for the very end when, as they were talking to Mo's landlord and neighbor in his front yard, Peggy was swarmed by fire ants. Fortunately, she was able to get away before it got too serious but the poor pegasus was squawking a bit when it was all over.
In September, Chris finally got to go on his trip to Orlando, FL. Chris knew he was going on this trip to attend the Cognos International User Conference for over a year and was looking forward to going to this vacation spot with his wife. Unfortunately, on the same day he left for Orlando, Peggy went off to Auckland, New Zealand to cover the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation summit. Since Chris had to go to Charleston, SC the following week for a once a year, nationwide business meeting being held by his office, Chris had no option but to go on the Orlando trip and then on to Charleston.
The ironic thing about the conference in Charleston was that it never happened. Chris arrived in the distinguished southern city by plane on Sunday and left by Chevy Astro van on Tuesday just as the conference was due to start. Why? Hurricane Floyd was threatening to pay Charleston a visit. The people at OPM maybe a little foolish at times but they know when to hang it up. So Chris, along with five of his coworkers, drove 12 hours from Charleston, SC to Washington, DC with hurricane Floyd chasing them all the way.
That following Sunday, Peggy returned from her trip and all was quiet for about two weeks until Chris had to go to Boulder, CO to attend a management meeting for his office. After the meeting and having seen some mountains views and an elk walk in the street, Chris went to Las Vegas, where he met his wife for vacation. There the two travelers managed to see a Las Vegas show, visit Red Rock Canyon and the Hoover Dam, and (of course) lose some money.
After vacation, Chris and Peggy only settled in back home briefly before they left by train to Providence, RI to attend a fantasy convention which had Peggy's favorite authors, Charles DeLint and Patricia McKillip in attendence. With Rhode Island, came the end of their '99 Adeventures although there was some brief talk of going to Taiwan during Christmas and New Year's. But, because of several reasons, not the least of which was the fact they were having trouble finding their house without directions, they decided to forego the trip and spend some quiet time at home.
